Biography

The younger sister of Sir David Young Cameron, Katharine Cameron was a highly respected artist in her own right. Although she earned her living as an artist from the many commissions she received for her watercolour illustrations for children’s books, she produced a notable body of original etched work which is much prized by collectors.

Encouraged by her brother, Katharine Cameron took up etching in 1898 and her landscape works reflect his direct influence. Almost all of Katharine Cameron’s landscape etchings depict her native Scotland. From around 1911 onwards Katharine Cameron began to pursue original etching in earnest and she became best known for her highly stylised naturalistic studies of flowers with attendant butterflies and bees.
